The sights, sounds and tastes of our tours

There are the popular attractions of the Loire Valley of course – the must sees – as well as those sights, sounds and tastes that you may not uncover if you are in a large group. We are a family run company and we live here so we can take you to local attractions which will not be on the menu for those on larger coach tours.

The majority of our guests visit us as part of a wider European visit, and as such many wish to maximise their time with us.  In addition, many guests travel here by train via Paris; this is an easy trip and we're happy to offer help with train times and booking information.

We want to make our tours as flexible as possible, so if you only have 3 days to spare, or want to extend your stay beyond 5 days, we always try to accommodate this.  Just contact us with your dates and plans and we'll do our best to help.

> Our Classic Tour

Based on our guests' favourite visits over recent years, our Classic tour lets you experience the sights, sounds and tastes of the region. The itinerary is as follows:

Day 1 - (afternoon arrival).  If you are arriving by train, we collect you from Port Boulet - our local station  - any time from 4.00pm. After settling you into your accommodation, we will share a drink to chat about the next few days before transporting you to and from a local restaurant for dinner.

Day 2 – After breakfast, we will head for Chateau Chenonceau, built over the river Cher and known as the ladies chateau because of the women who shaped its history.  After your visit, we'll travel into Amboise for lunch.  In the afternoon you can choose to visit the chateau at Amboise or Chateau Clos Lucé, where Leonardo de Vinci lived, or let us take you on a guided tour, where you'll discover the history and hidden stories of this pretty town.  This evening you can either eat at a local restaurant, or maybe you'll cook a gourmet dinner, or enjoy local cheese and paté, a fresh crusty baguette and a glass of local wine.

Day 3 – This morning we’ll visit a troglodyte village where we will take you on a private guided tour for you to learn the fascinating history of cave-dwellers in the Loire Valley.  Then we'll travel to Azay le Rideau; here you'll have time to enjoy lunch and either visit the newly renovated chateau or take a tour of the narrow streets and sites of the town. To finish the day, you'll visit Villandry - the last great Renaissance chateau built on the banks of the Loire - and famous for its magnificent gardens.

Day 4– Today we'll start at a local weekly market; browse the many stalls for delicious local produce and enjoy the lively atmosphere of this traditional French event.  Then we’ll visit Chinon - you'll explore this pretty Medieval town and enjoy lunch. You will also visit the medieval fortress, which Joan of Arc visited in 1429, before we take you for a winery visit. Our final destination today is visit Fontevraud l'Abbaye where you have the choice of visiting the Abbey - the final resting place of Richard the Lionheart - or enjoy a guided heritage walk to learn more of the varied history of the town and abbey.

Day 5 – This morning's first stop is Candes St Martin, one of the prettiest villages in France, where you can explore the riverside lanes and the Collegiale church.  Then we’ll move onto Saumur where we’ll take you on a private tour of the oldest working distillery in the Loire, before you have time to explore Saumur town and have lunch.  In the afternoon, you’ll visit Brézé – as well as the deepest dry moat in France, this unique chateau has a fascinating underground history. To round off the day, we will take you on a private visit to see the production of sparkling wine and also a tasting.

Day 6 - departure after breakfast with transportation (if required) to Port Boulet station for your onward journey.

The itinerary may change slightly to the above depending on the time of year of your visit and the days of your tour – for example we will visit the market on the days they take place locally!

If your holiday plans mean you don't have time to enjoy the full tour, or would like to extend your stay, we'll always do our best to accommodate this.  Just contact us with your plans and we'll try to help.

> Private Tours

In addition to this classic tour, we are happy to put together a bespoke itinerary – this is ideal for guests who have special interests (for example if you love gardens and would like to concentrate on visits to parks and chateaux locally famous for these) or if you have certain places/sights you would like to visit which are not part of our classic tour itinerary.  Alternatively, if your group would prefer a private tour then we are happy to provide this.

If you are interested in a private tour please to contact us to discuss your special interests and any places on your ‘must see’ list.  We usually concentrate our tours in an area roughly one hour’s drive from our base – so approximately anywhere between Tours to the east and Angers to the west.

> Accommodation

Accommodation throughout your stay is at a bed and breakfast property with high-quality en-suite rooms and all stays include a French breakfast each morning. In the evenings there is a good selection of local restaurants - each different in style - where you will be treated to true Loire Valley gastronomic experiences. Alternatively you may prefer to 'eat in' - your accommodation has guest kitchen facilities and there are supermarkets and local shops on hand.  So you can prepare dinner for yourselves -  from a gourmet 4 course meal to a simple supper of fresh local produce - cheese, patés, salad, a crusty baguette and a delicious patisserie, all washed down with a glass of local wine.
