Where we go, what we taste and more
The Loire Valley boasts a large range of wine appellations along and around its magnificent river, producing a wide variety of red, white and rosé wines - still, sparkling and sweet. Our wine tasting tour ensures you sample all of these, always in convivial surroundings and in the company of the resident wine makers who are passionate about their craft.
We are a family run company and we live here; all the wine makers are known to us personally and many are our friends – this means that your visit will be private just for your group and we can take you to winemakers who will not be on the menu for those on larger coach tours.
We keep the numbers down so that we can give you and your party the level of service we want to provide and this also ensures that we can pay attention to the details that will make your break one which is enjoyable from start to finish.
As well as its great wines, the Loire valley is steeped in history and no visit would be complete without experiencing a little of this – so in addition to plenty of great wine tasting visits, we build time into your tour for you to enjoy visiting a chateau or two and also to explore some of the historic towns in the region.
Below is a typical itinerary:
> Our Classic Tour
Day 1 - The tour will begin late afternoon on your arrival day (you are welcome to arrive any time after 4.00pm). On arrival we will ensure you are settled into your room as quickly as possible, following which we will serve you either an afternoon tea or an early evening aperitif.
Day 2 - After a good breakfast - plenty of choice including fresh croissants and bread - you will set off for your first visit of the day.We typically travel across the Loire to the medieval town of Chinon , with a first tasting at a local grower en-route. In Chinon itself you will have time to visit the town, including the animated wine museum and the hilltop chateau, before breaking for a well-earned lunch.
In the afternoon, we head east through the vineyards to one of the nearby villages, for our second vineyard tour and tasting before returning to the market town of Bourgueil. Here we will walk to a local producer for our final tour and tasting of the day, enabling you to compare the Chinon and Bourgueil appellations.
This evening we will transport you to our local gourmet restaurant, where you can enjoy a choice of mouthwatering menus, along with excellent attentive hospitality and an extensive local wine list.
Day 3 - After another hearty breakfast, we leave for Saumur, stopping on the way to sample the sparkling wines that the town is renowned for. Our visit includes an informative guided tour of the caves, explaining the differences in the methods of production.
We then move into Saumur itself, where you will have time to explore the town, famous for its château and military riding school, and take lunch.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Saumur Champigny region, which produces high-quality red wines and our winegrower has fascinating troglodyte caves in which you will taste his produce.
For your final evening, we will take you to a second gourmet restaurant to enjoy another delicious evening meal.
Day 4 - On your last morning, you will enjoy a final breakfast before you head off for home or an onward journey.
